FENSLER AND SCOTT PUT ON A THRILLING SHOW AT ALL AMERICAN SPEEDWAY

Roseville, CA - (July 24, 2010) - It was a fantastic Late Model race at All American Speedway in Roseville Saturday night, with No. 29 Jason Fensler taking the win after a great battle with No. 35 Matt Scott.

With an invert of seven, Fensler started from the outside of row one and took the lead on lap one. He was followed by No. 61 Shannon Mansch, No. 72 Michelle Nagai, No. 17 Jonathan Mawhinney, Scott, and No. 11 Juan Pitta. By lap four, Pitta was sitting in third. On lap 12, Mansch took the lead, but Fensler took it back on lap 13. A caution came out on lap 13 when Nagai spun.

On lap 15, Pitta and No. 20 Bobby Grewohl got together between turns three and four causing Pitta to hit the front stretch wall. Pitta exited the track with sparks flying out from under his car. Scott moved up to third, and Pitta came back on the track right ahead of the leaders, making it three-wide racing.

Scott and Fensler started their battle racing side-by-side down the backstretch on lap 37, with Scott taking the lead on lap 38. It had been clean racing between the two, but on lap 40, Fensler got in to Scott bumping Scott out of the way to steal the lead.

The officials put Scott back in the lead for the restart with six laps to go. The lineup is Scott, Fensler, No. 51 Chris Scribner, Grewohl, Mawhinney, No. 31 Justin Henry, Nagai, and Mansch.

On the restart, Fensler played with Scott taking his time to get on the gas. Fensler finally hit the throttle and gunned it for the lead, with Scott on right on his bumper. With four laps to go, Grewohl and Mawhinney got together and Grewohl was disqualified from the race because of too much contact with drivers over the course of the night.

On the restart, the No. 42 driven by Brian Keck spun and another caution came out. On lap 47 the field was under yellow again and Scott found himself shuffled to third behind Scribner. On the restart, Scott raced back up to second, but there was no time to catch Fensler. Fensler took the checkered flag, followed by Scott, Scribner, Mansch, and Mawhinney.

Scott proved to everyone again how great of a driver he is. He raced clean, even when he was not raced clean and he was patient working his way up to the front. Scott sits first in the Late Model point’s standings, 29 points ahead of Mawhinney.

The Bomber division had a heck of a race too. After winning the race, No. 77 Bomber driver Erick Ray said, "Seven is my number tonight.” Ray was referring to his car number (77), the number of motors he's had to put in his car this year (7), the year he was born (1977), a seven car invert, and the fact that coming it to Saturday's race, he was 77 points out of first in the points standings.

"We worked so hard on this car," Ray said after the race. "I want to thank my brothers Rick Anable and Gene VanZandt for all their help. I couldn't have done it without them.” Ray also won the second heat race earlier in the night.

He said running side-by-side with No. 22 Keith Hopkinson was a blast, and that on the last caution, he gave him a thumbs up for the fun side-by-side racing, and for racing him clean.

No. 05 Jill Schmidt qualified number one, but with an invert of seven, Ray was on the pole with Hopkinson right beside him. At the green flag, Ray took the lead and Hopkinson settled in behind him. On lap 11, No. 92 Mark Anderson moved to second. On lap 20, Hopkinson got second back when Anderson spun. Then on lap 24, Hopkinson took over the lead from Ray.

On lap 26 Ray took the lead back, and on lap 28, No. 3 Jim McGinnis crept up and took over second, with Hopkinson falling to third. It was heart-pounding racing until the checkered flag flew for Ray. McGinnis finished second, Hopkinson third, Anderson fourth, and point’s leader No. 37 David Thompson finished fifth.

No. 15 Jason Philpot held off a hard-charging Scott Winters to win the 40-lap Modified feature race. "It feels good to get back in the Winner's Circle," Philpot said.

"I wanted to get the lead, get some distance between myself and the rest of the drivers, and then pace myself. I knew I had to get ahead as far as I could,” he said. This is Philpot's fourth win of the season.

Philpot started the race on the pole with No. 2 Ryan Peter on the outside of row one. Peter got the lead on lap one and two, before Philpot took over. By lap seven, Winters had worked his way up to fourth, and on lap 28, Winters took second from Peter. Philpot was able to hold Winters off for twelve laps to get the win.

No. 23 Street Stock driver Richard Poppert, Jr. got a big win on Saturday. "It's been five years since I won a feature race," he said. Poppert started fifth, while No. 6 Spencer Emerson led the field on lap one. On lap two, No. 80 Bryan Tomerasson took the lead.

On lap six, Poppert moved up to fourth after bouncing around a bit. On lap seven, No. 14 Wayne Crossland got the lead from Tomerasson. On lap 10, Poppert moved up to third, and on lap 15, Poppert took over second from No. 8 Matt Cockrum.

Poppert moved in to first on lap 17 and never looked back. His car seemed to have improved substantially this week. On lap 20, No. 08 Mickey Owens had moved up to second. Owens was on Poppert's rear bumper, but Poppert was able to hold him off and get the win. Owens finished second, Crossland third, No. 50 Chris Lambert fourth, and Cockrum fifth.

Next Saturday, July 31, All American Speedway will present the Toyota/TRD Late Model 100 lap race. Expect a lot of Late Model entries in what is sure to be another thrilling race. Modified, Street Stock, and Bomber racing will also be racing. For more information go to: www.allamericanspeedway.com.

THOMPSON HAS CAREER NIGHT AT STOCKTON IN USAC COMPETITON

FREMONT, CALIFORNIA (July 20, 2010) – 17 year-old Cody Thompson, a rookie member of the Ron Sutton’s Winner’s Circle development team, showed his amazing progression on asphalt by winning the USAC Young Guns main event and coming home second in the USAC Ford Focus Midgets at Stockton 99 Speedway on Saturday.

Thompson came to RSWC with a strong resume in dirt 600 Micro Sprints.  He drove his way into the program through the shootout last October.

Driving the Southern Rock Ford Focus car, Thompson went from fourth to first to win the Young Guns heat race.

After finishing third in the Young Guns dash, Thompson went to work in the 25 lap main event.  He took the lead from teammate Brandon White on lap three, and drove off to a dominating half-a-lap lead on the field.

Thompson’s win in the Young Guns feature was not his only victory on the night.  In the highly competitive USAC NorCal Ford Focus Midget Series, Thompson timed in third fastest with a 13.654 second lap around the quarter-mile asphalt oval.

Thompson finished third in his heat race, but had his sights set on the trophy dash.  Starting on the outside front row, Thompson took the lead from Western Pavement points leader Cody Gerhardt and drove away to another big win.

The main event for the Ford Focus division started 12 cars and Thompson took the lead from the outside pole.  He led the first six laps before being shuffled to third.  A late race crash moved the hard charging Thompson back up in second where he finished the race.

Both performances give Thompson a nice position in the points.  He is third in the USAC NorCal Young Guns points and also third in the USAC NorCal Ford Focus Midget Series.

“Cody drove like a champion tonight,” Team Manager Randy Chastain said.  “This young man has all the skills and ability to be a consistent front-runner.  His dominating performance in the Young Guns was a sight to be seen!”

Cody Thompson Racing returns to action on August 21 at All American Speedway.

TOP-FIVE FINISH AT IRWINDALE MOVES CATTANACH TO FOURTH IN SRL

IRVINE, CALIFORNIA (July 19, 2010) – With a strong contingent of Superior Crankshaft guests and employees on hand, Kyle Cattanach drove the Bammer Motorsports #88 Superior Crankshaft Chevrolet to a fifth place finish on Saturday night at TOYOTA Speedway in Irwindale, Calif.

The fifth place finish boosted Cattanach to fourth in the series standings, just 88 marks off of first place.

“Kyle did an amazing job in the home race for our company,” Motorsports Marketing Manager Marty Melo said.  “Thanks to this run, we will probably come back in September with a few more associate sponsors on the car!”

Cattanach began the weekend consistently running in the top-ten and top-five in Friday afternoon practice, despite being one of the few cars that did not sticker up.

In Saturday’s two practices, Cattanach continued to look like a car that could contend for the victory.  Practices were held under 100 degree conditions, with the “SPEARS 100” starting at 9 p.m. the temperatures had dropped down to 80 degrees.

Cattanach and Crew Chief Mark Lundgreen worked to find a balance that would be fast in both qualifying and race-trim, and hit the jackpot with a second-fast qualifying time of 17.864 seconds around the half-mile oval.

The time was also a full tenth under the existing track record.

After a nine-car invert, Cattanach started eighth out of 24 starters.  After some shuffling early on, Cattanach was still eighth at lap 12.

The battling started to heat up by lap 20 before a caution flew on lap 22.  On the restart, the Superior Crankshaft guests in turns three and four were given a scare as Cattanach went through the smoke to avoid several spinning cars.

Cattanach moved up into sixth on the restart, and then began a long side-by-side duel with Auggie Vidovich.  On lap 45, after eight side-by-side laps, Cattanach completed the move.

With a pair of cautions on lap 51 and 53, Cattanach maintained fourth on the board.

The lap 53 restart proved to be Cattanach’s strongest, as he negotiated between Nick Joanides and points leader Derrick Thorn to make it three-wide.  From the middle, Cattanach passed both cars to take over the third position.

Cattanach ran tough the rest of the way despite fading tires, and held on for a solid fifth place finish.  The run improved Cattanach’s championship hopes in the touring series that will be dark until a return to TOYOTA Speedway in September.

“Saturday’s event was the culmination of an entire season of building the SP Racing program,” CEO Cheryl Archer said.  “We are very excited about not only what 2010 will bring, but the future of Kyle Cattanach and Superior Crankshaft in motorsports.”

WHITE MAKES FOCUS DEBUT AND WINS YOUNG GUNS DASH

EUREKA, CALIFORNIA (July 20, 2010) – USAC Western Pavement Young Guns points leader Brandon White, 13 years-old, won the trophy dash for the Young Guns division at Stockton 99 Speedway in Stockton, Calif. on Saturday night.

White, who also leads the points in the USAC NorCal Young Guns, races for Ron Sutton’s Winner’s Circle out of Sacramento, Calif.

The young driver also made his debut in the full powered USAC Ford Focus Midgets on Saturday night.  It was a busy double-header of competition on the quarter-mile asphalt oval track.

The tricky Stockton 99 layout is one of the most unique in motorsports, with drivers running a high line in turns three / four but a low line through 1 / 2.  Negotiating the race track in an 80 mile per hour Ford Focus car is a challenge that only select drivers can handle.

Brandon qualified on pole in the USAC Young Guns series. After a fourth place finish in the Young Guns heat race White rebounded to win the Trophy Dash from the pole position.

In the 25 lap USAC Young Guns main event, White ran strong to maintain his NorCal USAC Young Guns championship points lead with a solid fourth place finish.

At 13 years and 10 months old, Brandon White is the youngest currently active driver in the full USAC Ford Focus Midgets.  Knowing he would have to start in the back as a yellow flag rookie, Brandon skipped Focus qualifying.  From the back of the USAC Focus Midget heat race White drove to fifth.

Going into the USAC Focus Midget feature, the RSWC team was just looking for the talented youngster to turn some consistent laps and finish all 30 circuits.  Instead, White surprised everyone by navigating the field to an eighth place finish.  The eighth place run also preserved White’s record of a perfect ten top-tens in ten starts.

“This was a very exciting weekend for all of us at RSWC,” Team Manager Randy Chastain said.  “When we brought Brandon into our program last year we saw a lot of potential.  Brandon has exceeded our expectations and is growing into a force behind the wheel!”

Brandon White Racing and his Northcoast Lighting & Electric, Inc. mount will take a few weeks off before the next race on August 14th.  The team will return to the Orange Show Speedway in San Bernardino, Calif. where White recorded a pole in May and a win in June.

Brandon White Racing and Ron Sutton’s Winner’s Circle thank partners: Northcoast Lighting & Electric Inc., K&N Filters, Scribner Plastics, Allstar Performance, Sunoco Race Fuels and Star Racing Supply.

Pombo Classic Returns to Madera Speedway with Super Modifieds!

Al Pombo was one of the greatest drivers that ever drove a lap in Central California. Eighty years young Al still enjoys coming out to area race tracks selling his line of t-shirts and other memorabilia, but the ageless stories he delivers are free. Al is in a local hospital dealing with an illness so he will be unable to attend this event, but a very large “get well soon” card will be passed around the grandstand for fans to sign for him.

The ground pounding, fire breathing 410 Super Modifieds will race 50 blistering laps around the fastest 1/3 mile in the West in tribute to Al Pombo this Saturday night. Kody Swanson and A.J. Russell will race the Super Modifieds, as will Jim Burges and a host of other top drivers looking to capture this prestigious trophy.

Troy Regier will not be in the race this weekend, but Lonnie Adamson will be in familiar light blue number 98 S&S Motorsports Super that Troy normally drives.

“Troy was nearly killed in an off-road accident on New Years Eve. His recovery is on going. In the two races in which he competed this year, he was incapacitated for three days after each race. He is not totally retired. He is taking most of this year off to complete his physical recovery. He may run the last race of the year to see if his body can take the abuse any better after a few more months off. He'll make a decision at that time whether the retirement will be permanent” Gerald Laurie.

Both Kody and Tanner Swanson will compete in the BCRA midget race during the Pombo Classic, but they will have to deal with Chad Nichols, Nick Foster, and David Prickett to get to the trophy girls.

The MST’s, Legends, Sportsman, 4-Banger Two track Challenge and the BCRA vintage sprints and midgets are all a part of the under card for this great event!

The 2010 Pombo Classic is this Saturday night, grandstands open at 3:45 and tickets for an adult are just $20 thanks to a sponsorship of $5 per ticket from Hooters Restaurants.  Kids five and under get in for free with a paying adult. There are discount tickets for seniors, juniors and discount family packs available as well.

USAC WESTERN SPRINTS INVADE STOCKTON 99 SPEEDWAY

SACRAMENTO, CALIFORNIA (July 14, 2010) – USAC Amsoil Western Sprint Car Series points leader Tony Hunt will be looking for his 30th series win on Saturday night, as the non-wing asphalt warriors head to Stockton 99 Speedway in Stockton, Calif.

The event will mark the sixth race of the 2010 campaign, with Hunt leading rookie Luis Ramos III of Clovis, Calif. by 63 points.  The series has been dark since May 31st but many drivers have been busy racing in Utah and also throughout the Midwest.

Ramos comes into Stockton the heels of a solid third place effort on July 12 with the USAC Rocky Mountain Sprint Car Series.  Ramos claimed his first career USAC victory on May 15 at All American Speedway in Roseville, Calif.

Audra Sasselli, Shauna Hogg, and Rohnert Park, Calif.’s JoJo Helberg round out the top-five in the standings.  Just four markers separate Helberg and Sasselli.

Helberg completed a busy Midwestern swing over the past few months and in his return to California racing will pilot the 3F for Ted Finkenbinder.  The pairing will look to improve on an 11th place finish at Roseville in May.

Multi-time USAC Ford Focus Midget Series champion Tim Skoglund of Fresno, Calif. will be behind the potent #15 Harvest Supply mount at Stockton.  The Harvest Supply team earned their first ever win earlier this season at Stockton with former series champion Kody Swanson at the helm.

Alamo, Calif. standout Scott Pierovich will also be in attendance on Saturday, hoping to improve on his pole in Stockton competition in April by nabbing the feature win.

Action on Saturday at Stockton will also include USAC Western Midgets, USAC Ford Focus Midgets, and USAC Young Guns.  Grandstands open at 4 p.m. with racing beginning at 6 p.m.

The series has added a new date on August 7 at Madera Speedway to replace cancellations at Orange Show.

ROMANO PERSEVERS FOR FIRST CAREER MODIFIED VICTORY

ATHERTON, CALIFORNIA (July 12, 2010) – 19 year-old NASCAR Whelen All-American Series Modified rookie Nik Romano took home his first career main event win after an electric finish on Saturday night at All American Speedway in Roseville, Calif.

The standout driver races for Ron Sutton’s Winner’s Circle driver development team based in nearby Sacramento, Calif.  The recent addition of veteran NASCAR Nationwide Series crew chief Scott Rodgers to the team has paid off with two back to back wins.

Romano slipped past the spinning leader coming out of turn four and crossed the line in second place, but was credited with the feature win after a rough driving penalty was awarded to the winner.

In qualifying, Romano timed in seventh fastest with a 14.352 second lap around the one-third mile asphalt oval. After finishing fourth in his 10 lap heat race, the stage was set with Romano starting sixth for the 40 lap feature.

Romano moved into fifth by lap four, and fourth on lap 13.  The 2009 Ford Focus Midget Series champion ran comfortably in fourth until lap 30 when he began to reel in the leaders.

On a restart with eight to go, the top-two cars tangled to bring out the yellow and move Romano into second.

Romano was shuffled back to third with two to go, as the leaders raced hard ahead of him.  When the leaders made contact, the entire crowd of nearly 1500 fans was brought to their feet.

By giving himself a comfortable separation, Romano had room to dive underneath the spinning lead car coming through turns three and four.  Romano’s win is the 14th in 2010 for the Ron Sutton’s Winner’s Circle racing team.

The win also boosted Romano to sixth in the All American Speedway Modified points.

“We are all very proud of Nik for getting his first Modified win,” driver coach Ron Sutton said.  “Nik has won races and championships in a variety of series with our program.  He kept his cool under wild circumstances and showed that he has what it takes to win many more races in his path to a NASCAR career!”

LICATA EXTENDS POINTS LEAD WITH DOMINATING PERFORMANCE

LAKE BALBOA, CALIF. (JULY 12, 2010) – Joey Licata, Jr. swept the weekend’s ASA TRUCK SERIES activities at Toyota Speedway in Irwindale, Calif., winning the 50 lap feature to claim his fourth win of the 2010 season.

Licata, the 2009 series champion, extended his points lead in the 2010 campaign.  The 18 year-old driver is a member of the Ron Sutton’s Winner’s Circle driver development team in Sacramento, Calif. and also drives Late Models for Tim Huddleson’s High Point Racing.

He has finished and qualified in the top-two in all six ASA TRUCK SERIES races he’s entered.

After leading all the practice sessions in the afternoon, Licata took home his fifth pole of the season with a time of 19.92 seconds around the half-mile asphalt oval track.

Licata started the feature in fifth after a five truck invert, and at the end of lap two was already up into third.

On lap six, Licata took over second and he started to ease his truck in towards the lead.  By lap 35, Licata was ready to make his move and he took over the lead easily.

A caution on lap 42 bunched the field up for an eight lap shootout, but Licata drove away to a comfortable win.

“This was a big weekend for Joey as he continues to gain experience at Irwindale,” Head of Driver Development Ron Sutton said.  “Joey is showing no signs of slowing down!”

Licata’s next scheduled race is July 24 in the Auto Club Late Models at Toyota Speedway.

Crashes highlight racing at the Acres

It was a surprisingly cool summer evening this past Saturday night at Redwood Acres Raceway.  The five local division returned to the 3/8-mile paved oval after a two-week layoff.  Unfortunately, numerous accidents highlighted the events throughout the evening and by the end of the night, several drivers were hot under the collar.

Nick Green held off Casey Mitchell, Ronnie O’Neill and Bill Middleton to win the real stock trophy dash.  Mitchell went on to win the heat race over Green, Ryan Robinson, Doug Way and O’Neill.  The real stock main event proved to be the highlight of the evening and likely the best race thus far at Redwood Acres in the 2010 season.  Mitchell and O’Neill raced a clean, nose-to-tail race for most all of the 20-lap feature.  O’Neill was unable to use the high line to his liking as he tried it several times on Mitchell.  At the checkered flag it was Mitchell beating O’Neill, Way, Middleton and Robinson.  Surprisingly, the main event win marked Mitchell’s first of this season.

In mini stock action, Scott Baker won the trophy dash over Brian Murrell, Ricky Davis who was making his first-ever start and Brian McIntosh.  Baker followed up with the heat race victory over Brian Murrell, Jr., Murrell, Ryan Ahrens and McIntosh.  Baker was able to make it a clean sweep on the night as he ran away with the main event beating Murrell, McIntosh, Murrell, Jr. and Ken Barrett.

Nick Hansen took the roadrunner trophy dash victory ahead of Raleigh Willoughby, Dylan Cook and Michael Lawrence.  Kolby Jackson held off Hansen to take the heat race victory followed by Lawrence, Cook and Willoughby.  The feature was a rough and tumble affair.  In the initial start, Brett Murrell and Cook made contact going into the third turn bringing out a restart.  On the next start, Willoughby and Jackson came together as they were completing the first lap with Jackson getting into the wall.  The next restart saw contact between Ken Barrett and Dax Kinsey going into the first turn.  As both cars headed for the wall, Cook was caught up and he spun and hit the wall with his rear-end.  Barrett and Kinsey were finished for the evening while Cook was able to continue.  The race was cut to 10 laps with Hansen taking the win over Jackson, Willoughby, Cook and Murrell.

The thunder roadster trophy dash went to Randy Olson over Tommy Payne, Brandon Barnwell and Chris Sarvinski.  The heat race for the roadsters looked more like a demolition derby than a race.  When trying to pass Rob Nelson on the outside of turn four, Sarvinski got too high, got loose and hit the wall coming off the corner finishing his evening prematurely.  After a restart, Nelson and Fergy Ferguson got hung together in turns one and two sending both drivers into the water barrels entering pit road.  Both drivers were okay but were also finished for the evening.  After all the chaos, Olson took the heat race win ahead of Mike Ward, Barnwell, Payne and Ziemer.  Barnwell took the lead from the start of the feature event but by the end of the first lap, Olson was on his bumper in second.  Going into the third turn on lap five, Olson took the lead and never looked back.  Olson took the win handily over Barnwell, Payne, Ward and Ziemer.

Jerry Peterson took the sportsman trophy dash honors ahead of Angelo Marcelli, Larry Pries and Mic Moulton.  Aaron Byers was able to beat Peterson by inches in the heat race followed by Moulton,  Dennis DelBiaggio and Pries.  Byers was able to take the lead early in the main event over Marcelli until lap two when DelBiaggio got loose going into turn three, spun and hit the wall ending his race.  After the restart, Marcelli began to work hard on Byers for the lead.  On lap 9, Marcelli found the line under Byers for the top spot.  On lap 16, Peterson moved by Byers for second with Moulton following the next lap.  On lap 20, Pries tried to make a move under Byers for fourth going into turn three.  The two touched and went into the wall.  Both drivers were fine but out of action.  After the restart, Marcelli showed surprising strength holding off Peterson and Moulton.  Neither was able to put a serious challenge to Marcelli’s lead and at the checkered flag it was Marcelli winning over Peterson, Moulton and Kenny Demello.

The racing action at Redwood Acres Raceway goes on a three-week hiatus before returning on Saturday July 31st.  Joining the five local divisions will be the return of the Airport Auto Brokers Late Model series.  It will be the second of the two scheduled points paying events for the series.

FIREWORKS BREAK OUT DURING LATE MODEL RACE AT AAS

Roseville, CA - (July 3, 2010) - With all the antics going on between the top four drivers in the Late Model race at All American Speedway Saturday night, Matt Scott was able to keep a cool head and be patient which resulted in a win for him in the 50-lap feature race.

"There was a lot of stuff going on behind me and I just had to stay patient and let everything work itself out,” Scott said.  “I got tagged a couple of times going into the corner, and I started getting a little angry, but I smoothed out.”

“This team does a lot for me,” he added.  We had a bare chassis less than a month ago to what we have now, and we are already winning with it.  That's pretty incredible," Scott said.

No. 20 Bobby Grewohl qualified on the pole, and with an invert of four, that put Jonathan Mawhinney in the top spot, with Ron Chunn on the outside of row one.  Scott started third, Grewohl started fourth, and Bobby Butler started fifth.

At the green flag, Mawhinney took the lead, and by lap three Butler had moved up to second.  On lap five Butler took the lead from Mawhinney, and by lap six, Scott had moved up to second.  There was a lot of bumping going on between the top four cars. They showed no mercy.

On lap 14 Grewohl passed Scott for second.  Butler, Grewohl, Scott, and Mawhinney were literally running nose to tail bouncing off each other.

Butler and Grewohl were racing each other hard when they got together between turns three and four, causing minor damage to both cars.

That’s when the fireworks really began.

The track was under a caution and the pace truck had come out to lead the field.  Butler waited for Grewohl to come around and then drove into him hard.  Butler then ran through the grass and back out on the track barely missing the pace truck and an official.  Butler exited the track and was done for the night.

On the restart, Scott got the lead with Mawhinney running second.  Ron Chunn and Chris Scriber got together, and then Chunn spun across turn one and was hit by Scribner again.  Scribner exited the track with damage to his car.  On the restart, Chunn and Tyler Thomas got together between turns one and two and Chunn's car had to be towed off the track.

After another restart, Scott and Mawhinney raced side-by-side, then Scott took the lead on lap 34.  Meanwhile Michelle Nagai was battling Justin Henry for fourth and she got the spot.  It was a battle between Grewohl and Mawhinney for second with Grewohl beating Mawhinney across the finish line by a hair.

LICATA WINS BIG IN MODIFIED DEBUT AT STOCKTON 99 SPEEDWAY

LAKE BALBOA, CALIF. (JUNE 30, 2010) – Joey Licata, Jr. gave Ron Sutton’s Winner’s Circle its first ever Modified win in Saturday night’s NASCAR Whelen All-American Series-sanctioned action at Stockton 99 Speedway in Stockton, Calif.

The 18 year-old is the 2009 ASA TRUCK SERIES champion and leads the points in the 2010 ASA TRUCK SERIES.  He also drives in NASCAR Auto Club Late Models for Tim Huddleson’s High Point Racing.

Ron Sutton’s Winner’s Circle driver development team is based on Sacramento, Calif. and its Modified team includes multi-car efforts at both Stockton 99 Speedway and All American Speedway.

Licata drove the #7 Ron Sutton’s Winner’s Circle / Star Racing Supply Modified to the pole around the quarter-mile asphalt oval with a time of 14.562 seconds.

After finishing third in his heat race, it was time for the trophy dash.  Licata started on the pole, led all four laps, and stretched his lead to 1.2 seconds at the stripe.

The 30 lap feature was more of the same for Licata.  He paced the field easily, leading all 30 laps of the contest and accumulating another large lead.

The feature win was the first for the quickly growing Ron Sutton’s Winner’s Circle Modified team.  Licata now has six top-two finishes nearing the halfway point of his 2010 season.

“Joey took to the Modifieds like a fish to water,” driver coach Ron Sutton said.  “We are very excited to have Joey in our Modified a few more times later this year and also excited to see him continue his strong runs in the trucks and late models!”

Licata will return to the seat of the RSWC Modified on August 28 at All American Speedway in Roseville.  His next race will be this Saturday in the NASCAR Auto Club Late Models at Toyota Speedway in Irwindale, Calif.

BOBBY GREWOHL PATIENTLY GOES FOR GOLD AT ALL AMERICAN SPEEDWAY

Roseville, CA - (June 30, 2010) - No. 20 Late Model driver Bobby Grewohl has made his presence known by winning back-to-back Late Model races at All American Speedway June 5th and June 12th.  Late Model drivers look out, because Grewohl is gunning for glory.

"This year is the first time I've ever raced for a championship," Grewohl said.  "I never had the opportunity to race in a series all year and bring a championship home to a sponsor.  I've proved to myself that I can win and now the next step is the championship."

"When I first raced for Bill McAnally in 2008, I came out with guns blazing.  It didn't matter who was in my way. I have matured since then.  I don't put myself in a position to not finish the race.  I've never had to think this way before."

"I was introduced to Bill by Ron Sutton," Grewohl said.  "I took it upon myself to develop my relationship with Bill. He is a genuine guy. It's a natural fit."

Grewohl started out this season pretty much under the radar for the first five races, finishing in the top five only once, but since then, he's finished third three times, second one time and won two races, including the 100-lap Toyota TRD race June 5th.

He said he is still an aggressive driver, but he has learned to be patient.  "You have to first finish before you can win," he said.  "I've learned to look at the big picture instead of just the moment."

Grewohl comes from a road racing background, but said short track ovasl fit his style of racing.  "It's what I enjoy the most," he said.  He has raced Formula Fords, Mazdas, Renoits, and USAC Midgets.  He was an Indy Car development driver for Chip Ganassi from 2005 to 2006, and he has tested car aerodynamics for NASCAR Sprint Cup and Nationwide Series and for Indy Cars.

He was on his way to what he thought would be a dream come true, a bright Indy Car Series future. When the economy turned in 2006, Ganassi had to get rid of his third car.  Since Grewohl was low on the totem pole, he was left without a ride.

In 2008, he raced seven Late Model races for Bill McAnally. "I didn't have a sponsor like I do now," Grewohl said.  He won four out of the seven races for McAnally, including three back-to-back races and the Open Showdown at All American Speedway.  In 2009, he ran a full USAC Midget schedule.
Grewohl said he knew that if he was going to make anything happen as far as a racing career, he would have to bring a sponsor on board himself.  While he was pursuing sponsors, he met the owner of Pick n' Pull.  They talked, and then Grewohl called McAnally about the potential sponsorship.  Grewohl, Pick n' Pull and McAnally sat down for a meeting and sealed a deal to run a Late Model full time in 2010.  "I was persistent," Grewohl said.

Grewohl sits third in points, 20 points out of first, and he will be racing the No. 20 Pick n' Pull Late Model this Saturday, July 3, at All American Speedway in Roseville.  There will also be racing in Street Stock, Modified, and SRS.  Plus, any member of the military in uniform on July 3 will get free admission to the track. Krzysik was unable to win either of his heat races, but finished strong in the first heat with a third place effort.  The second heat race saw Krzysik make a quick move to the front only to be freight trained the rear.  He made up some ground before the finish and came home fifth.

Krzysik started second in the 25 lap feature and challenged for the lead before the caution came out on lap five.

For the next 15 laps, the top-three cars ran nose-to-tail with Krzysik maintaining second.  At the line with four laps to go, Krzysik moved to the outside and ran side-by-side with the leader.

A lap and a half later, Krzysik broke through and cruised to the checkers for the victory.
